On by friend's back porch! Much obliged.

I would have tried to get closer but he is 4' long and I did not want to get bit.

One lady saw round pupils. I see cottonmouth like coloration or water snake?

Not a good one!!!

Looks like a cottonmouth to me but not a great picture to tell. Let it bite you and then we can tell for sure based on the medical treatments needed to keep you alive.

Round pupils, not poisonous.
Could be a mature water snake or yellow-bellied racer.

I was thinking Black Diamond, I killed a huge cotton mouth on my dock this spring, the head on them is a dead giveaway... The color on this snake looks like a CM.

The obvious thing you can see from the photo is a thick body shrinking to a tiny tail. If we could see the head, we could better identify.

It's a snake that's obviously in the wrong place.

Curiosity killed the cat. Same should apply to this snake. Too close to the house. Doesn't seem to mind the white pointed stick poking at it though.

Gorgeous neighbor.

Very smart.

She poked the snake to see if it were aggressive and she tried to see if the pupils became more slender in direct cell phone light "like a cat"
