Wacky, I'd also advise that you pay no attention to the no-wake buoy if you're concerned about a ticket. Of the 671.25 boats who've ignored the buoy, zero tickets were written.

I don't know about the bouys your talking about but I know people will do some crazy things like that. People on Taylor's bayou have a couple no wake signs on one stretch and a hunting club actually hung "no fishing,no hunting" signs in a few canals. It's all on navigable water so I know it's free for anybody to go there.

I actually have a picture of myself with a decent fish in front of a dock with 'no fishing' signs from when I may have been 18 or so. I thought it was hilarious at the time. Still kinda do.

Mother Nature doesn't read these signs.

No wake zones for many are just like speed limit signs on the highway. They are just a suggestion not a rule that applies to them. Just watch Fork under the bridges.

A retaining wall will protect your shoreline during high water and storms much better than a no wake buoy will.

Feel your pain on the price of retaining walls. I have 401 ft of retaining wall in need of replacing.

Call navionics and get them to list it on their maps as a flooded timber area would be more effective than a no wake buoy

It's true that those buoys are unenforceable but it's just common courtesy to not wake people or their property. In fact, yesterday I was coming into an actual no wake zoned and there was a family in a small fishing boat before the zone started. I slowed down well before them and the zone so I didn't wake them. Some idiot in a larger boat passed me on the port side about 5 feet from my boat and not only waked me but also the smaller boat. What guys like that don't realize is that you are responsible for your wake and if you cause damage to someone's boat or property you can be sued civilly by the boat/homeowner.

When I am on plane my bass boat puts out a very small wake. Not sure how that would do any damage. No different than a small wave on a 5-7 mph windy day. Off plane, I would have to idle at the slowest the boat would travel to put out the same small wake as I would on plane. I was also told on the lake I fish that if the no wake buoys are not numbered (permitted I guess) they are not a legal buoy that will be enforced.

If the bouy is not out far enough it will be worse than staying on plane. Most people I see shut it down right at the bouy so the guys that petitioned for the extension of the buoy have the right idea.

or Athens at the boat ramp ,,,,, and YES it "IS" bass boats that do not observe the no wake area was well. I watched a big ol Ranger with it's occupants come flying out of the first cove/creek on the west side on plane right past the no wake buoys and stayed on plane well into the no wake zone at the ramp.

That doesn't set a very good example.
Sure do miss the AMWA boat out looking for these guys.
