Got a boat slip on a local lake and made the first trip there May 10. I'd heard reports of crappie there but only in winter. The water ranges from 10 ft to 35 ft the further out the slips you go. I thought they would be in deeper water so I started about 25 ft with a pearl chartreuse jig on a 1/16 jig head covering the lower water column. Not a bump.... I moved closer to the shallow end and worked the 20 ft area up to about 10 ft and still nothing. I moved to the slip where the depth is about 15 ft and started at about 12 ft. Bump!! First fish about 12 inches. I caught several more there at that depth and it went dry. I moved to the shallowest slip and started from the top down, thinking things are working in reverse so let's just go with it. I caught one at about 3 ft in 10 fow. The fish were suspended from 3 to 7 ft in the 10 fow area. I caught 20 or so before I had to leave. I kept 7 in the 12 to 13 inch size. Only a few were small fish. All in all I was surprised at where the fish were suspended given the water temp of about 70 deg. I've been back once since then and they were there but at 12 ft over 25 fow. tight lines yall stay safe!! I had to go back and find the pic's

I'm catching Crappie 10' to 12' also. Depth of water doesn't' seem to matter.
I think the Crappie are feeding on Shad. 10' to 12' they can hang out and move up when a school move over them. They are really similar to schooling bass, they just don't break the surface of the water.
Good Luck on your new slip. It's impressivr to have that depth of water to work with. A few Cedar trees could really hold the crappie.

Speaking of Cedar trees, there are several ropes tied to the framework of this floating boat slip system down close to the water, maybe 10 or 15 total. After checking a couple of them, they are huge Christmas Trees scattered in the slips at various depths. That's what is holding these fish here.
