I have 6 of them and I've never had any issues. Tell him to take it back to BPS and they'll replace it. I stepped on a guide a while back and they replaced it no questions asked.

I have broken 2. Sat on 1, and the tm lock pin broke the other. Been using carbonlite 1.0 and 2.0s.

Never had that problem with mine and I regularly cast 3-4oz of weight quite a distance on it. Handles carp very well, if only it had more line capacity...

Grandfather had 1 and about 8 broke off casting a jerkbait. I suspect damage from store.
I can backlash toilet paper.

Not all cases but I would tell you, no matter the brand, many are caused by stepping on the rods at some point. Fished with a guy that was super anal bout me on his front deck, watched him step all over his rods. Heck I know I have stepped on mine.
