I live toward the end of the Caney Creek arm of Cedar Creek Lake (Dixie Isles One - East of the Log Cabin ramp) If you fish the area, you have surely fished my dock.
The area is very well known to be a great spot for shooting docks, so on big weekends I will see 8-10 boats per day working my dock along with the two adjacent docks.
My lake pump system has its intake under the end of my dock in 8 FOW. The intake head has a nylon mesh screen covering to help reduce stuff from being drawn in. The nylon mesh works really well to keep the system running clean until fishing season takes off.......when I have to replace the mesh bag about every 10 days like right now. I have tried moving it to different locations, but it invariably gets snagged and ripped.
If you see a PVC pipe headed down near the end of a dock, you can likely assume that there is a water intake below. Shooting a few feet either way would be beneficial to both you and lake water system!

The funny thing is, your mesh bag on the end of a pvc pipe feels like a lake record for the first 45 seconds. Almost as big as the trolling motor prop feels until the tip of my rod touches the water and I get off the pedal.

Thanks for the heads up about the pvc pipe and mesh bag. Surely will avoid it because nothing worse than some one tearing up what don't belong to them. Thanks!!

Why don't you try one of those plastic strainers like they use on trash pumps?

lunkerloser, I do use a plastic strainer - 24" long x 4" dia. The fine mesh bag goes over the strainer like a sock and zip ties in place. Extends the life of sprinkler heads and keeps them running smooth. Luckily the mesh bags only cost a few bucks.
Nitro, you just never know!
Mudshark, I'm laughing with you because I've see the quick reflexes go in to action - then the realization.....
Thank guys, Marc

The plastic strainers let too much sand silt and moss to suck up.the trash stopsup heads and grinds up 300.00$ pumps and solinoids.

Thanks for the input. I shoot docks a lot and it's a priority of mine to not disturb another persons property. I'll keep an eye out for pump intakes now.

Put the whole thing inside of one of those wire dog crates with some bricks... protect everything and get about 300 dollars in lures every week.

I extended my intake about 20 ft out into the lake. No problems so far.

If you had to go 20 ft to deep water your dock probly does not get shot.

Hey, maybe that's an idea......move my intake away from the dock. I had just assumed that I was supposed to stay under the dock, because that is where it was when I bought the place. My launching ramp is on one side of the dock, but there is lots of room on the other side - where nobody seems interested in fishing.
Hmmm......
