Hoping to find someone that would be interested in traveling to the higher elevations in Colorado and fishing the lakes at Grand Mesa, and the Gunnison river. Late August to early September for about two weeks including four days travel is my general plan. My wife and I have made this trip for the last two years, yet she will not be able to go this year. You do not need to be a fly fisherman to catch trout, spinners or bait on a light rig works just fine. I am debating travel trailer or renting a vacation house in Delta or Cedaredge. If the cost is split two or even three ways, a trip like this is not expensive.....Lawton

Google maps has it at 1,039 miles to the town of Delta Colorado. To get up on the Mesa it's only 25 more miles. I drive it in 1 1/2 days, doing about 650 miles on the first day. Spotting pronghorns in northwest Texas and New Mexico and enjoying the scenery helps make this trip worthwhile.

Sounds like a nice trip if someone is looking to go to Colorado and catch trout. The scenery alone is worth the trip. Wish I had that kind of time to take off. Good luck on getting someone and making the trip.

Yes Pastor I really want to make this trip, but driving and fishing alone isn't nearly as much fun. That's aside from the cost issue. I like going in late August to early or mid September because school has started by then and this cuts down on the crowds a little, and the insects haven't been a problem for the last two years at that time. Send me a pm telling me about yourself and we can swap information and ideas...Lawton

Sounds like it would be a fun trip. If I didn't have AFIB I would be going with you.

Thanks for the interest Marc. The basic plan is to fish a lot of the lakes on the Grand Mesa. Ginny and I rented a house in Delta last year and day tripped it up on the mesa, but I'm not opposed to setting up a camp lakeside, then venturing to other lakes. I have 2 kayaks that haul nice on my custom overhead rack. 2016 Quadcab 4x4 Hemi yet I do not own a travel trailer at this time. I am open for ideas, heck maybe we can get 4 or 5 people interested. I ran the numbers to pull a trailer up there and back from my area, and found it to be less than renting a trailer in that area. Let me know what you think...Lawton

Just got back from Grand Junction on Monday. Fishing was okay, caught a few on small panther martins up on the mesa, and few down in the river. Did better in the streams around Gunnison on quantity. Good lake at Clifton just outside of Junction, and Highline lake over by Mack is decent as well.

Thanks for the update Chuck. I am yet to find a partner for this trip (as I smell my armpits) but am in hopes that someone or several people will be interested soon. I probably will not make this trip solo, due to cost as well as it's no fun to fish alone. If anyone reading this is interested, shoot me a PM and I will be glad to tell you what I know about this area as well as my general intentions and ideas for this trip. Scroll back to the beginning of this thread to get an idea of my thoughts and plans for this fishing adventure....Lawton
