Building a new BGE table and need some advice. The frame is made out of raw cedar which I plan to stain with a 3 in 1 product similar to what I have used on my exterior door etc. The top however is a butcher block style top with about about 5-6 different kinds of wood (African mahaogany, Pine, Oak and a couple others). I do not want to stain this top but I do need something to protect it from the elements? What would you guys use? I have looked into the butcher block oil but I'm not sure how much of a protectant that is for exterior use. I am guessing I could use some sort of pure polyurethane but I do not want it to be shiny either. I don't want any color added to it just need it to be protected. The table will be under a covered porch but on the edge and may get a little rain from time to time depending on wind. Thanks in advance.

With those woods you have in there, I would use a Teak oil. Rub that in, let it sit for a day, then get some super fine steel wool and soak the steel wool in the Teak oil and give it another light oiling. Clean real well and coat with a thin coat of matte poly through a sprayer. That sir, is going to be one gorgeous table! Nice build.

No help with your question but I had a custom cover made for my BGE table and its NOWHERE near as nice as what your putting together sir. My covers 4-5 years old now and just as good as the day I bought it. http://grillwraps.com Got it from these guys if youre interested in one.

Ended up going with a sanding sealer made by minwax and then I did one coat of satin Poly. Prob do a couple more coats but it brought the colors out nicely.

Looks good, just a thought, if it gets heavy use than you may need to set a form around it and pour on the epoxy to make it thick

Yea I think its gonna take 3 to 4 coats and light sanding of some 220 to give it that slick top look. It will getused prob every other day so def want it to be protected. lol
