I’m curios if an AGM battery is bad for the stator style charge system? I’ve seen different reports on this. Some say to use led acid or you will burn up things. Others say AGM is fine.

I’ve got a 1996 Mercury EFI 150 so trying to find the proper battery. Thanks.

AGM is a lead acid battery.
The liquid is held in suspension by a material embedded between the plates.
There are few characteristics that are different between a common and there should be no problem with it.

Some of the best marine starting batteries are AGM. The Sears AGM that has been discontinued was for a time the best starting battery on the market.

I was running a Duracell AGM from Sams but I saw some lower voltage readings than usual so took it back and found this one from oriellys which seems to be way more stout for less:

I just bought 2 group 31 batts from Sam’s for my trolling motor. Was thinking of getting another for crank
Batt but I like this one you posted and it is $54 cheaper.

Used a cabellas AGM battery for years on a stator type motor. No problems was going for 5 years when I traded boat off. That is the only batteries I use. Just catch them on special The ones in my boat are 4 years old for trolling motor and starting . Also use them in my motor home. They go 6 to 7 years before start getting weaker.
