When checking the weather when getting ready to go fishing, what's the number you use to say nope, not going? (To windy.)
Does it just depend on the lake and the planned fishing location at the lake?
Or, do you just not go when it's above a certain number?
I don't like fishing in windy conditions. 15 MPH is fine, between 15 and 20 is hmm, above 20 is nope.

Pretty much 20+ makes it not fun.

Prepare for the future-it will be here tomorrow. Personal Best Large Mouth Bass 9 lbs. 12 oz 5/13/19. Herb Stein, who famously reminded us that “if something can’t go on forever, it will stop.”

10-20 I'll fish Lake Belton, pretty protected. 0-10 I'll fish lake Waco, anything more 10 it like the Atlantic Ocean Anything more then 20 and I stay home and mow the lawn. Not a real big fan of the wind, always checking the neighbors flag pole to see which way it's blowing and by how much.

At Falcon Lake, if the forecast says 10-15 mph, you add the two together (25). If it's over 20, no, head for the coves, maybe.

gust over 20 I'm done. Found a app on android that shows current lake levels for each lake, it also has a wind speed chart showing gusts on the lake. Seems to be pretty accurate so far for me.

Gust to 35 and il probably stay home. Ive fished Choke with gusts up near that and it was a pain but fishable. I guess it depends on the lake. I probably wouldnt fish Amistad in 35 gusts.

Sustained winds over 20 MPH make for a rough day. Seriously, a very good rule of thumb, when he Weather Chanel's forecast says "Windy", stay home.
Another consideration is the boat you are running. I'm a lot braver in a Ranger 522 than in a Tracker 17.

I have a center console so winds over about 16 push me around too much. Console acts like a big sail.

Ill fish 20-30 every day if I know I can be in spots that will diminish that a little bit, even off shore. I dont mind a run or two in the rough water. Would pefer calmer days but I would also prefer to fish rather than not fish.
If you can't find em wind em.

The reality is the bite is usually better in wind. The chop give predators an advantage and also helps conceal the angler.
That said, how much wind i'll tolerate depends on how I'm planning to fish. If I know they are on a moving bait bite, I'll put up with a lot more wind. It's a whole lot easier to effectively fish a crankbait or a chatterbait in the wind than it is a weightless senko.
So I say as long as you can fish effectively, embrace the wind. Just make sure you know when to leave. I've left e'm biting many of times because the conditions just got unsafe.
