Always pay attention to your graph on the front. There are many times I will mark a bunch of crappie on brush or timber in any depth of water, but lets say 20 FOW and the fish are at 12'. Once I park on top of them I will start seeing a fish or two at the 3-6' mark. I will use my front graph to raise or drop my jig right above that fish and bam, fish on. Most of the time those shallow fish are the easy to catch because they are actively feeding, if you can position your jig under your sonar where you can see it and put it on top of their head.

Not uncommon at all. There are preconceived notions (handed down from dad's and grand-dad's) that you catch crappie 2 reels off the bottom. That's not always the case. Even in winter, I've caught crappie suspended in about 5 ft. water. I think the fish are going to be hanging out in their comfort zone whether water temp or baitfish hold them there.

To whom much is given, much is required.

Man i remember several years back while bridge fishing in the dead cold of winter and I caught a few crappie 4 foot down on a rod I just laid over the side to get out of the way...this changed the whole dynamics of what i thought i knew...me and my boys would be catching fish as fast as we could get them while everyone else was "two cranks" off the bottom.

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

I’ve been catching them under the 2 Mile Bridge At Tawakoni the past 2 weeks 4-8 feet deep in 28 feet of water limiting out every trip because of the shad spawn near the surface.
