Good morning all. Hoping to find a little help and avoid having the dealership take my boat hostage.

Does anyone know the correct setting for the ranging switch on the back of the tachometer for a Merc 225 Pro XS? The chart says open 2 and 3 for 6 cyl. Also says open 4 for 12 alternator poles. I know the engine is a 6 cyl but believe it is 12 altenator poles as well. Should I set it by engine or alternator poles?

The setting is currently on 2 and the tach is reading too high. It's an 8 position switch. The photo is not mine and an example only.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Try engine first.
