I have some 80# Power Pro to put on my 9500. Do I put on some mono first like on a conventional reel? Help Please.

either Mono, or a lot of people use the sticky Vet Wrap... a couple wraps so the spectra wont slide on the bare spool. I would do the mono if you dont feel like using the vet wrap... Remember you need about 7-10 pounds of drag to get that spectra PACKED on tight- so tight you thump it and it sounds like a rock..... I ended up spooling up a big reeel, then adjusting the drag and pulling it off onto my spinning reel.

Wear gloves and have someone hold the spool of spectra with the gloves. This will allow you to spool it on the real extra tight.

Good advice above!
If you have the reel on the rod -while loading the spectra- remember to hold the rod level so that the spectra does not rub against the guides.

Hey Michael,
Did you ever get a chance to send out 16000's out. If not, we should be fine.

Chris at Islander's uses duct tape and swears by it before spooling spectra on any reel. Winding it on tight and in a criss cross pattern is important.

Joe, We have tried to get new drags for the Thunnus, but have had a hard time getting the drag plate heights correct. So we are still on stock Thunnus's.
FWM, ask Chris about me calling him on a 911 situation when I forgot to tape my spools of my TLD's, and remembered about 3 PM the day before we went out.

Thats cool Michael,
I am sure we will be ok. If not, I have a backup topwater rig.

the drag plate hieghts were different on my SPheros, but when the stock felt is compressed- it comes out to about the same hieght as the carbon fibers.... my only fear is heat dissapation running the carbon fibers....
