Headed there this next week for a couple of days. Not looking for spots just an idea on what water temp I should expect and an idea of what the fish have been biting recently. Don’t really want to bring 20 rods if I don’t have to.
Thanks for any help!

Lots of grass everywhere. That's one lake where you can truly launch, put the TM down, and start fishing. Tx-rigged worms in the grass, small cranks in the grass, and small paddle tail swimbaits are what I usually catch fish on. Spinnerbaits catch the bigger fish. If I had to bring one rod, it would be a rod I can throw a Tx-rigged worm on.

I’ve fished it a couple times recently, numbers are good, size is not. Fun jerking though!

Dad and I hit the lake today, pretty typical for my trips to Bastrop, getting bites is easy, catching a fish over 3 lbs is a chore. Fun jerking and good times with Dad. Only about 5 other boats braving the 20 mph north winds today, but it didn’t seem to bother the fish too much.

Well it wasn’t very kind to us.

5/6 fish over a full day of fishing. Thought the top water bite would have been on with the weather we had but it wasn’t at all.

Flukes and spinner baits is what we caught them on.

The topwater bite on Bastrop has always frustrated me. I can count on one hand how many fish I have caught on a topwater bait of any kind. That includes the mighty Whopper Plopper.

What’s the consensus on this lake in 2021? Would it be worth the 2 1/2hr drive from Houston?

I enjoy fishing out there. It’s a pretty little lake with semi clear water. Lots of small fish but usually fairly easy to get bit. Tough to catch fish over 3lbs. You can fish grass, wood, reeds, shallow, deep. Fun lake for me anyways.

If you are looking for size, don't hold your breath on Bastrop. The biggest fish I have ever caught there is a little over 6 pounds and that was 10 years ago. Bastrop is a numbers lake. Get yourself a medium light rod, 10-pound test and a small lure.
