I JUST bought this reel from BPS last week. Went fishing twice, caught 3 fish on it and all the sudden it starts making a popping noise while the line guide moves from left to right. Doesn't do it when guide moves from right to left however. Is the Citica junk? Anyone else have any problems with them? Should I take it back and get my money back or just exchange it for a new one? Please, help

Hmm, that is very odd. I've had a Shimano Citica 200DPV for about three months now and have not had a problem with it. I would take it in for an exchange, it is a good reel normally.
Just my $0.02

I have 2 of them and one started doing the exact same thing. Guess I will be taking it back to exchange. I have had no problems with the other one.

Huh, sounds like its a common problem but not all of them are junk? Its just a hassle for me since BPS is 1.5hrs from my house. But I love the rod that it came on.. (packaged deal) thanks for the info guys! Derek

I would send it in to Southwestern parts in Dallas if you do not want to make the drive to BPS for a new one. I just sent my Curado there. They had the reel back to me in 4 days. I sent a copy of my receipt and they fixed it under a Shimano Warranty. Go to Shimano's website and download a form and mail it to them. Good luck with your reel.

I'm having problems with mine as well. It sort of "catches" in 2 places on the retieve. I can't tell if it's levelwind or the gears.
I fished it all of about 10 times.

Well, the more I hear about this reel the less confidence I have in it... I think I am going to return it and get my money back and go with one of the new curados with a allstar rod (academy package) the curado is notorious for lasting forever. What do yall think? Any other Citica owners out there have anything to say? Good, bad or ugly? Derek

I have 3 that I have used for a year now. Not a single issue with any of them.

I have 2 that are less than 3 months old , used maybe 6 times. They seem smooth, none of the issues described in this post. Does this problem happen right way or over time? Would it be wize to get the repair kit and replace the parts effected?

Would it be wize to get the repair kit and replace the parts effected? It usually occurs when the reels are new. It becomes less likely to occur as the reel is used. I'd hold off for now but keep the URL above handy. Doc
