The Concept Z has been one those things we see occasionally that really, really get over-hyped, over-sold. There are usually several each year in different categories. Then, they hit the market, the pre-release hype dies away to reality.
So far, most of the reviews have mentioned one issue or another with the Concept Z, say like noise and vibration. And, tests of casting distance have shown it not to be superior to others as was suggested before its release.
So, for me, there'd be no contest . . . today. You have a reliable winner in a Shimano versus a greater unknown. A year from now, it could be the Concept Z will have proven itself out in real time situations.
But, if you are buying today? Take the safer road.

I have the Concept Z I like the concept Z it does feel lighter and cheaper than the other concepts out there it is smooth and feels great to fish I also have the curado 70 HG.. I do feel it is better made slightly heavier and feels stronger also love to fish it if I could only have one.. it would be tough choice but seeing as how I have had the shimano for over a yr and the Z for about 2 months I would have to lean towards the shimano

+1 for Shimano. Its proven solid and a great reel. Concept Z is unproven and a big unknown. The idea of space age bushings being better than bearings is hard to believe. Will they still be in the market in 5 years when the bushings have to be replaced?
