Yes it is, don't believe me call these guys they are in the know about mercury/quicksilver oils http://www.europeanmarine.org/ The only difference is the 2 cycle packaging was made for wal-mart corp. You're partially correct. Mercury Marine packages oil in jugs that say Mercury, to be sold at Mercury dealers only. Quicksilver oil is the exact same thing but it is packaged to be sold at stores who are not Mercury dealers (not just Walmart). Premium Plus as far as I can remember has always been synthetic blend although it may not have always said so on the label. Premium was the straight dino oil. Correct. As seen on the photos above premium is the red label oil for use in the smaller engines. Premium plus is the black and silver label used in the larger engines. What I asked was were to buy the old silver label straight outboard motor oil by quicksilver. Help please.

jafish, I understand your point and I am the same way. I would never change the type of oil I use in an outboard, especially an old one. Dance with the one that brung ya.

Like several people said. The silver label is synthetic blend. It just has a different label now.

I think what people are saying, and I agree with them, is that whether you know it or not, you've been running a synthetic blend in your engine the entire time. The Premium Plus, which is what I ran when I had a 2-stroke, has always been a blend, even if it wasn't labeled that way on the packaging.

Well thanks its just not me then there are others. When I started using it as far as I know there were no blends or synthetic around being sold for 2 stroke and that was in the 1970s. They have had synthetics as far back as WW2 in the 40s that I know of maybe longer. Im just trying to find straight oil so I can buy more. I dont want to argue any point I just want to buy oil.

Mercury marine oil . That is the red label for mid to low hp engines. I have a big 225hp that must have the silver label. Thanks anyway.

Look maybe this will help everyone understand what the guys are saying about it always being synthetic blend. Number 1. Mercury does not make their outboard oil. It is made on contract and has been made by several different oil company refineries over the years.. Number 2 The oil in the jugs you have could have been made by different companies. Mercury gives them the formula they want them to make. The current maker is Citgo and if I remember right they have been making it around 8 or so years. My guess is they are cheaper than anyone else. My Mercury motor is a 1999 225 Opti-Max and it has never had anything but Premium Plus in it. My owners manual says to use Premium Plus. A few years later Mercury started recommending to use Mercury DFI full synthetic oil however I still use Premium Plus because no one where I live sells it.

If you are speaking of the red label in the link it specifically says high horsepower. I think you could possibly be over thinking this deal. Have a very, very, very nice day.

What he doesn't understand is he has been running synthetic blend as long as he has been running premium plus. He just doesn't want to believe it.

Correct, Dubee, that's the Plus part of it, been using it in EFI's since it came out. I have a friend w/ a late '80's Merc, that has run Pennzoil pure synthetic ever since he bought it. Pro XS's should run the DFI oil. Merc brand oil is red, Quicksilver oil is amber/gold. Reg Merc 2-stroke blend is green. The Optimax and Pro XS motors use synthetic for the way they "atomize", or spray a fine mist of oil, into the burn, EFI motors squirt a stream of oil, into the burn.

The oil in the Quicksilver jugs in question that I posted the picture of (that everyone seems to want to argue about) is a dark green color. Your post pretty much just confirmed its a straight 2 stroke like me and the OP have been saying.

So does no one sell conventional 2 stroke outboard oil anymore, as in the stuff that is pumped out of the ground?
It doesn't matter much to me, I have never put anything but Yamalube in mine and I know it is a synthetic blend. I'm just curious

The Mercury Racing techs seem to think otherwise, as I was told to either run Premium Plus or Walmart Supertech in my last 2 Pro XS engines (17 and 18 models). They said to run that oil with a treated tank of #2 Quickleen, so I have. 800+ hours combined on both engines and no problems. Hmm.....
