Ive been there done that before grout scout . Maybe he guy did the best he could do .Its not a easy job. That's why I learned to discuss everything with the customer before I started. Including the layout.

Thank you. I was just wondering how much truth there was to that statement.

Fact is that most of these types of tiles have a bow or crown to them, so to minimize lippage(or uneveness), there are a couple of things that an installer can do.
1)Since the tile industry recommendation for plank tiles is no more than 1/8 inch deviation in 10 feet, the floor must be checked thoroughly & if it isn't within specs, explain to the customer the importance of getting their floor leveled & negotiate a price to do it. 2) The tile industry also recommends that you offset no more than 1/3rd of a tile (33%). The less offset you have, the less chance for lippage problems.....Stay away from 50% offset(or brick pattern)....Random layout is best.

A lot of good info here guys. I appreciate it.

My sister would have either paid more to ensure leveling or picked a better tile option if the contractor had discussed this with her ahead of time. No one told her about either of those possible issues until after it was installed.

I understand she's in a bad spot now because the tile is already down. She was really just wondering how much truth there was to what they told her (even though they waited until after the install to tell her).

You guys always have good knowledge and I appreciate it. Thank you.

Update: The transition looks better now.

They did apparently pay to have everything leveled first. They are sorting everything out. A lot of the information you provided helped with their talks. Thanks again!

Glad to see they are receptive to talking and working things out. While not perfect, thats a vast improvement over what it looked like at first.
