I would ask a tile guy. He might be right if the floor wasn't leveled first.

Yeah but isn't it the contractors job to level the floor before putting down tile?

Put some 1/4 round down....lot of folks lay tile then add that around the edge to make it look better. Very common.

Getting mud under that edge is tricky....then you have to slide it under there. Never will be flush....that's why you come back and finish it off later. Good contractor should know that.

I'm not a contractor, but laid tile helping my tile buddy and fixed issues like that with trim.

House I am in now used Lowes.....they did pitiful job (same floor you got there). Cheapest is not ever the best. We put down 1/4 round through the house...prepaint it and it goes faster.

Sorry, it's not the gap near the wall that I'm talking about. If you move right to left in the picture from tile to tile, it's not even. There's a lip.

I've "heard" that laying those larger/longer tiles is a pain. You better know what you're doing.

Thank you. I was just wondering how much truth there was to that statement.

There is truth to it. And if I laid that tile myself, I'd be perfectly pleased with it. But if I pay a pro to do it, then I expect professional results.

Hopefully your sister hasn't paid the guy yet.

How much did she pay for floor floating? It's not cheap. If you don't have a perfectly flat surface to lay on than this is what you will get.

A lot of the issue could be the tile or could be the slab. Some of the large format tiles have a cupping to them, meaning that if you look down the edge, similar to staring down the barrel of a gun you will see that the is bent. When you get a bunch of bent tiles installed with a tight joint, you get a bunch of little dolphin backs all over the floor. When you have a cupped tile they are supposed to be installed in a 1/3 offset, meaning all the cupping is kind of flowing together.

Now we have the slab issues, almost none of them are flat enough to lay directly over. I installed 1,900 ft of plank a few weeks ago and it was the first time in years that I didnt have to float the slab out first, it was a pure miracle...almost like finding an unicorn.

Now by looking at those pics, Ill just go ahead and say that the installer sucks greatly. But what can you do at this point? Rip it out & dont pay him, someone is going to eat the cost of the tile, whos that gonna be?

Maybe the installer talked to your sister before the installation? Sometimes the salesman promises more than the installer can deliver.

This can be true, but just seeing that doorway is enough to tell us about the quality of the installers work.

The installer didn't pour the slab. Leveling is extra and expensive. I've done this work before and have had to have people sign a waiver before I did the job. Everybody wants a good job but they don't want to pay extra to get it right. This is just my experience.

Nah, you missed the doorway where the 2 rooms joined. He didnt continue the tile throughout the house, he chopped it up to make an easier install. Go back and look at the first picture, in the jamb.
