Hi guys,

I am wanting to take my 6 year old daughter out for some relatively easy fishing. I bass fish out of my kayak a lot and she asks to go but I think that's a little much for her first exposure. I think this would be a good way for me to have a good bond with her over something I like without boring her for long stretches of time between LMB bites. Does anyone know of a pond where it's not too hard to catch bluegill in the Carrollton area?

If you do not want to post on here, please feel free to PM me. By the way, I won't be using this spot often - maybe just a few times with my daughter. Usually I am on my kayak on lakes looking for my first DD bass!

Try Ken Goode park It's off of old Denton. Go west on Jackson. Take some earthworms and minnows too.

There is a creek at the intersection of Pool Rd and 12 Oaks Ln in Grapevine/Southlake (not sure which). I can always catch bluegill in there on just about anything edible. Sandwich meat, worms, corn, bread, etc...

lol. just to be clear, I don't eat worms. now I realize that was a strange way to say that.

Virtually every single bit of water will have sunfish. Josey Ranch is good, Colonial House Lake where the creek runs in (Josey/E Peters Colony), Oakbrook Park..... When learning my favorite for sunfish were those teeny tiny creeks in Carrollton that you can see on google maps. The sunfish in those seem to be way more aggressive than ponds. Also you can use pet store crickets, slim jim, and especially BREAD for sunfish to avoid the dirty hands with worms. Just ball up bread on a hook and destroy them.

Thanks for all of the input! I actually live by colonial house pond and was considering that as well. It just gets hard to access once all of those cat tails start growing.

When I would go the creek area between the bridge/road and the pond was open. Caught a few good size gills on lures.

Ended up going to Ken Good. It took us a bit but I found a spot (maybe on a bed) where we could get a bite on pretty much every cast. I think my hooks were a little too large, though. Lots of bites but only landed two (daughter was thrilled).

I must have seen at least 15 other people fishing those ponds for bass - didn't see anyone else catch anything.

There are two pond by the Carrollton library and rec center off of Keller springs and Josey at the South West corner. Pm when you want to go out I have access to a private pond which is very good and would be easy if fishing with works under a bobber for bass or bluegill. I think the bluegill are spawning right now.
