I use braid end to end. I'm one of those that don't give fish a whole lot of credit for being smart enough to know the difference.
THIS If the theory is fish see the line, then why do people use pure braid only when flippin? They cant see the line when Flippin? Once you tie that smaller lb test to your braid, you're now fishing with the smaller lb test...weakest link. Pure braid for me.

Bass fishing, straight braid. In saltwater, I tie a crazy alberto knot to 20# Invizix fluro. Just being honest, I don't know why I use leader in saltwater, but I've seen a million other guys down here doing it so I do it as well.
I've been bass fishing my whole life and just started saltwater about 3-4 years ago.

Straight braid on all rods except my flukes and C-Rigs. Those get a Big Game leader. Always use the double uni-knot. Fairly easy to tie and super strong.

Keep at eye on the diameter of the braid. For example, 50# braid is similar to 12-14# mono. If you try to put 20# on a baitcaster your going to get more backlashes and use more line spooling up. 30# is about as small as I go on a baitcaster.
Same for tying leaders onto braid. The closer the diameters the easier it is to tie and better it holds.
Mono is still a good option for treble hook baits. Agreed. Also I learned something last week with braid to Flo leader. I had 50 braid and tied an Albright knot to 25# Berkley Flo. I hung up and had to break off two jigs in the rocks. The Albright knot did not fail once. I was impressed.

+1 Braid + Fluoro leader. I use braid + leader because it's easier to manage for me. I backlash a lot with all fluoro unless spending big$ on premium line, plus there is greater sensitivity with braid. To overcome the problem of braid digging in on itself, I use 50 lb. Anything lighter has too small of diameter and it digs a lot. The braid>>fluoro knot I use is the Alberto Knot . You can only use this knot on rods with semi-micro or regular sized guides. The FG knot is thinner but I have difficulty tying it, especially out on the water. 4 other advantages are: 1. Braid lasts a lot longer. No worries about oxidation, sunlight, kinks, etc. 2. You minimize the expense of fluoro bc you're only using ~3-4 feet at a time for leader. 3. You can use a high visibility color and still get bit. 4. You can use a stronger fluoro leader than you otherwise would have had as your main line had you chosen to go 100% fluoro which means fewer break-offs. The downside are wind knots. I get those occassionally, but have learned to manage with them pretty well.

Braid all the way to a trilene knot at the bait
6 out of 9 of my set ups are braid

In heavy cover with a heavy sinker (fast fall rate) it becomes an initial fall reaction strike. Thats why I only use straight braid punching.

I like using a leader for two reasons, I can fish from 15 to 30 lb line on the same rig plus the leader line does not dig into wood like braid does, and I do not have to change my line out for 2-3 years.

Agree. I like a 6-7ft leader for the above reason (braid likes to saw and dig into wood)
Also, having a leader gives you some margin for error when you get the bass close to your boat and she tries to make a final run straight down or under your boat
Doug Hannon was a proponent of breaking up the line so the fish dont see it as well. He used a sharpie to color the line in staggered increments I feel that using a leader breaks up the line in a similar way

I asked a fishing guide out of Austin about this "theory" of fish seeing the line. His reply was simple, A-RIG. It has wires all over it, usually attached to heavy braid and fished in open water. But yet it catches fish, and multiple fish at times. I subscribe to the G mans philosphy, in that we give fish way to much credit for the size of brain they have.

Braid when I want to use braid, flouro when I want flouro. Never both!
