Looking at getting a Garmin Striker Plus 7SV for my Bonafide. Rekon that might be overkill? $499 on Amazon. Has all the scan capabilities plus it has software that maps out the contours of the bottom of the body of water that you are on. I like what it has to offer. But do yall think side scan if variable in a kayak?

No such thing as overkill IMO. Get the biggest screen with the most bells and whistle you can afford. You can have a way to get "there". You can have all the gear to fish "there". If you don't know where "there" is then that stuff doesn't do you much good.

There are lots of good units out there. I like the Hummingbird Helix 7 Si G2 unit. Read all of the reviews, watch all of the videos you can stomach and make a call. Remember, this is suppose to be fun.

How does the Humminbird Helix 5 G2 SI GPS compare to the Garmin? Garmin 7sv has side imagingand bigger screen for same price. The Humminbird 7 g2 is nice but a little more than I want to spend. Are the Garmins "lower" quality or something?

I have a Humminbird Helix 7 on my Bonafide SS127 and it works great.

There are some review sites that just seem to be marketing hype, are done by bots or their info is badly out of date no matter if it says: best 2018 fish finders. I found this site helpful. Hope it helps you compare too: SonarWars If you or anyone else has a favorite sonar review type website, I would love to hear it about it.

I'll second what Todd said.
I've had a Humminbird, three Lowrance units and now two Garmins. All of them worked but found I liked the Garmin interface better. Go to a store and fondle the displays and figure out what might suit your needs the best.
