Hey guys - My lab is 12 and has always loved his nyla bones. But , he is 12 , is there a better alternative ? No rawhides chews , those arent really his thing. What say you Wise OT dog lovers ?

Mine does too , my grandson will give him sticks to chew, he thinks it is so funny

Sticks and wood can give them splinters in their mouth and throat, according to my vet. We gave our lab Nylabones when he was younger. We moved on to Kongs. He doesn�t chew much anymore, so the King is just for putting peanut butter or treats in to give him something to do.

You should pre-chew the bone for your dog, then transfer it from your mouth to his.

You're better off giving him real bones vs anything synthetic. He'll love you for it, too. We've had our dogs on raw diet for about 6yrs now and the result is just amazing. We have a 12yr old Flat Coat Retriever whose coat is shiny as ever and he still frolics around and plays with our Border Collies. On a raw diet, their stool comes out in pellets and literally disintegrates in a couple days. No more picking up poop! Check out Texas Tripe. They offer plenty of product, one being bones of different varieties; turkey necks, chicken necks, duck carcass, etc. Not only nutritious, but your dog at 12yrs old will go nuts for this stuff. We buy the double packs of giant rib bones at tractor supply. Our dog naws on those things for hours.

i don�t recall her ever getting splinters, but she was one tough dog. Lived to be 16 and she was one big lab too

It�s never happened to my dog, and I�ve never heard of anyone else�s dog getting them, but my vet said it can happen, so I try to restrict him gnawing on sticks. My wife lets him chew on sticks all the time, but I figured I�d try to limit it, because if something obscure can happen to a dog, it will probably be mine. Best dog I�ve ever had, but he has bad luck.
