Hung my flip flop on the edge of the front deck step. Was falling towards all my rods so I opted to go overboard. Luckily it was summertime on Arlington and the old ranger had a ladder on the back. No longer wear flip flops.

I've been in Fork 3 times. EVERY SINGLE TIME it was Feb or March and the wind was blowing 30 mph!! Why is it you never fall in the water when it is 98 degrees outside?? I hear ya. I did go out once in the middle of summer but I landed on my feet in 2 feet of water and didn't even get my wallet wet. Every other time it was face first and a mad dash to the truck to keep from freezing. The worst I've ever seen was a tournament director leaned up against a digital number pole in the takeoff boat in a 200 boat tournament. Right before takeoff, 19 degrees, the pole breaks and he goes in face first. By the time they got him back in the boat and to the ramp dock his hair was frozen solid. He started duck waddling up the walkway and hits a slick spot, feet go straight up in the air and he busts his head wide open. Didn't see him at the weigh in that day.

3 times for me. First time, had a 94 champion with original folding sit down style seat. Was fishing while sitting down and set hook hard. Seat back breaks off, my momentum kept me going onto my back and right off deck over side of boat. I even laughed at myself. Straight Bill Dance type of scene I'm sure.
Second time hit a stump on high and momentum kept me going.
Third time grandfather and I were in this spot on Livingston that's absolutely full of big alligators. It's about a 50 acre backwater pond probably that is home to on average 20 or so gators over 7'. We're in there and I went to step back on deck and lost my balance. I had enough sense to look down and decide to either step on rods or just go in. I went in. All this in the span of probably a second but felt like 5 minutes. I went in right shouldee first and was back in the boat in enough time my hat didn't get wet. All I could think about was alligators having lunch. My grandfather still laughs at me about that day.
I can backlash toilet paper.

ONCE!!! Fishing off back deck in a friends boat during a Tournament. Im used to a big front deck. He was putting a fish in livewell. I had to step back so he could open it. There weren't no full step space available. I stepped in splashwell. Different level. Lost balance & KNEW i was goin in backwards!!! I made a Grab at the Power Pole (missed) & feet were still on back deck. Partner grabbed my feet. All that did was pin my legs& feet on back deck. Head & upper body was underwater face up!! AND couldnt sit up. Water logged clothing is heavy, so, there i was, facing up, head & shoulders under water, blubbering " Let me go" under water & him TRYING to keep me from going all the way in, while anchoring my feet down. I FINALLY got a grip on Power Pole again & pulled my head above water for a breath & said " Geez, are you trying to drown me??? He weighs about 135# soaking wet. Im 260 dry, BUT, HE wasn't wet & I wasn't DRY. Finally got my hips back onto deck & sat up. Then we BOTH almost fell out laughing so hard. This is great...funniest thing I have read in a long time. Thanks for sharing.

Was fishing a club tournament on J.B. Thomas a few weeks ago. I was using Spotlock on some offshore fish. As sun came out I put the trolling motor on high and made about a 100 yard move. I just reached in my cup holder and blindly attempted to press the Spotlock button again.
Instead I hit the return button. Trolling motor rotated 90 degrees and went to max speed. I was extremely close to being thrown out. Took me a few minutes before I realized had I fallen out, my boat would have been speeding away from me.
Time to start wearing the remote around my neck.

Fallen in never but have jumped in more than once. The last time was to save a rod I'd accidentally knocked over the side back in November up in Harvey on Rayburn. My partner Craig thinks I'm about to sometimes when I'm fighting the wind with the trolling motor. When it gets really bad and I'm having to catch my balance I break out the butt seat.

Wife and I were fishing in a bunch of standing timber. Boat was about to side swipe one of the trees so I reached out to push off of it. As soon as I pushed off, the branch snapped and I went head first into the water. My wife nearly fell out laughing at me.

Both times I was snagged up and bumped another submerged object while going in after the lure. Never in real cold water. Better then to get a snag pole or just break off (or just never snag up).

Went out once. Was on Tawakoni during a PAA tourney and was watching Zell Rowland. Decided to go watch someone else and went to lift the TM and rope broke when I had all my weight leaning in the other direction. Did a Superman off the port side. Had one sandal left on the deck and the other floating in the water. Lucky I did not land on a stump. Partner asks if I was ok then proceeded to lay in floor laughing at me, not until he took a pic of me in the water first. Have used a cable on the TM release ever since.

The poll results make me think that 2/3 of entries either have not fished stumps very much or ashamed to admit they hit the water.
