Used the search function and didn't find any noteworthy posts on Sunshine Lake at Cartwright Park in Weatherford for a few years back. Anyone fished this lately? I fished the creek late last summer and caught a couple decent channel cats, but never tried it for crappie. I have seen some reports of some big slabs at one point, but it was a few years old. Anyone have any recent info?

lake has some big crappie in it. The creeks by the ball fields are where we have done best using a slip cork. good luck

Fished it Saturday. Super windy so went back up in the creek. Not a bite one on minnows or plastics.

I have fished that lake a handful of times. Most recently March 17th. With chicken liver, minnows and regular bass baits and jigs. We caught absolutely nothing. We (my Dad and I) have yet to catch anything out of there. I want to like that lake so bad but we cant figure it out. Part of it is our inexperience but you'd think we would have got something out of there by now. I don't think I will ever talk him into going back.

I have fished that little lake many times and I can tell you its not fishing friendly. The best way to fish it is from a kayak or boat as the banks get beat to death. I usually only catch good crappie along the dam during the spawn. I have only caught two 13+ black bass in my 60 years and both were from that lake but you will have to work to catch what ever your targeting. It used to be a trophy lake years ago before it was donated to the city for a park by Ms Cartwright.
