We are at 4-1/8 inches here in Rockdale as of this morning. I still have a lot of water standing in my yard. It came down pretty good last night, but I feel like we dodged a bullet. Just to the north of us got slammed. The rumble of thunder was a consistent sound for sure. I even asked my wife if she could here the constant rumble from a far, but she was almost a sleep at that time. It was so constant that one could call it a little freaky. I should have gotten up and went outside to check it out because at one point I thought it could have been the noise caused by a tornado.

I drove by Nails and Cedar early this morning. Both creeks were out of the banks and flowing like rivers. Water was coming over the road near Cedar. We got 5.5 inches of rain in Brenham.
Lake level is at 239.5 and not releasing yet.

Thanks for the information on creek conditions J-Moe. Probably helped several anglers who were wondering about this. Saved them time and money, awesome info....

I went out and checked on Nails and Cedar again this afternoon. The water had receded substantially and was only a couple feet high. It was still muddy. There was a large number of people bow fishing and cat fishing in Nails. There was a ton of buffalo, gar and carp in the creeks. Very few catfish were being caught. Cedar may be fishable by Sunday but I have no clue if any white bass will be in there.

Define closed. Closed to public, or closed as not letting water out? As far as allowing the public back in there, I don't think they are going to. I heard they closed it due to the amount of trash that was been left behind. But here again, that was just hear say.

I can say this was a fun year for me. I caught good numbers in four different locations of streams feeding into lakes. When one was slow, I could go fish another. That made for a great five weeks of fishing. Time to retire the ultra light tackle and move on to black bass fishing for the rest of the year.

The shad have moved shallow and so have the white bass on the main lake. The white bass were surfacing near the shore this morning. I caught several on a popper dropper. There were several people catching them on live bait this morning. A couple of guys had their limits by 9:30 AM.

A guy told me they were on the far west end in shallow water doing this a week a go. He said the water was boiling all over the place. He caught several hybrids on a crank bait over there too.

West end is the entire lake from the Dam. Lol
We use the phrase west end relentlessly.
Big Creek, Rocky, Snake Island and Birch should be the west end areas id focus on...
Follow the trolling mafia... youll find the whites

I went back to the lake this evening with the kayak. The birds were working shad so I followed them and caught white bass for a while. Then suddenly the wind came howling out of the north and I had to abandon the kayak. I started working the bank following the birds and continued to catch white bass. The wind pushed the shad towards the banks and the fishing became totally insane. I caught 11 to 14 inch white bass with the fly rod on every cast for about an hour. I left after it was already dark and they were still biting. Absolutely incredible day. These couple years of flooding have done wonders for the white bass population. You should be able to find them just about everywhere. Early morning and late evening are usually the best times.

J-Moe always finds fish! This is Peter. I met you a week ago at Irwin bridge, and followed you Newman's bottom. Thanks for sharing so much fishing stories with me. it was one of my best fishing day. I never fish on the lake and have no idea what type of lures (type and weight) should i use. I usually have soft crappie bait on 1/16oz jigheads when fishing along the creek. Will this also work on the bank of the lake. One problem I can foresee is that I can't cast this far. I'd like to hear some advice.
