I have a Garmin 73sv, and I was playing with the settings yesterday.

I have always thought the traditional view wasn't giving me enough detail. I switched the kHZ setting from 200 to 77 and all of a sudden I am seeing arches on my screen in the water. I mean, this was a dramatic difference... in addition the lake bottom was just plain bright yellow when operating like this.

Can anyone help shed some light on this for me? any recommendations from more experienced users?

thx

The lower kHz has more coverage which means that it is showing a greater area under the boat. The higher khz the less the coverage. The lower kHz will always show more fish. The good thing about the higher kHz is that it will show fish that are almost directly under the boat. The fish that appear on the lower kHz can be In a larger area. A simple way to put it fish that show up in the higher kHz will always show in the lower kHz cone but fish in the lower kHz will not all show up in the higher kHz

thx 44 Diesel... so it sounds like keeping it at the low frequency is the way to go.
