It depens on the size of the fish you want, how you are fishing, and what lake you are on. for size use live bluegills or shad whichever is natural in your lake (bank or boat under a cork or freelined) if you are going for smaller cats in big numbers use dead shrimp or Chicken liver (bank or boat but on the bottom)(some use punch bait but I never have had much luck with it) small crawfish caught at the lake work well too. chum your spot with sour corn or grain and you will have much better luck.
Tight lines and God bless!

for yellas i use live perch, live mudcat. for channels i use beef blood, frozen shad/dead shad, earthworms for blues i use the same as for channels. BTW the bait i use on lines is live perch, live mudact, beef blood, sometimes frozen/dead shad, or earthworms.

I generally use beef hearts soaked in oil and garlic.

This year on Richland Chambers I have been using cut carp. Scale the carp and then filet. Cut into 1/2 in square and about 1 inch long. I have tried shrimp, frozen shad, fresh caught shad, and in the last month I caught about 100 lbs of blue cats. 80% on cut carp with circle hooks to 13 1/2 lbs. Go figure this one out!!

I don;t add anything to the carp. Leave it bloody and don;t use too large a piece. We were missing a few fish and than started using a smaller pieces. I just hook the end or a corner and leave the hook exposed. I find the 3/0 eagle claw circle is about right. I believe that you can land almost any size blue with the drag set light and 17 to 20 lb line. The hardest part is to let the fish bite good and then pick it up and wind in only. No hard set!!!
The skin is tuff so make sure to place hook from the outside into the meat side. Carp are in the weeds now and so I just jig them and freeze some for later when they are hard to get.

Usually Catfish Charlie, but after this weekend I am a believer in Danny King's.
I will never skin another possum, de-horn another cow, or barr another hog-----everything else is price negotiable!
