What’s your favorite techniques and baits during and after spawn?

Spinnerbait, weighted fluke, and a topwater are what I usually reach for.

What conditions prompt you to go topwater? I've fished in farm ponds most of my life, so a couple of lures are all I've ever needed.

Yeah good question. I’ve never tried topwater on spawn and even less post

Topwater is mainly for the post-spawn part. However, I've had good success with a buzzbait and prop bait when blind sight fishing. Oftentimes during the spawn, I'll put the trolling motor on high and cover water with a topwater. I wouldn't say that I catch a lot of big females doing this but you can catch a bunch of males doing it. They see something go buzzing by and they just react to it. If I come across a bed I'll slow down with a soft plastic bait.

Post-spawn is arguably the best time to throw a topwater. Those fish are hungry after not eating for awhile. That's the best time of year to catch a big post-spawn female.

Tube, lizard or Lake Fork rig using a stickbait, during.

Buzzbait, spook, chugger or squarebill after, then carolina stuff.

Bubblegum, Crappiecakes, and chicken McNuggets.
Those will cover all year long.

Ok: Texas rigged red worm, chatterbaits, shakey head crawl.

Going to give some top waters a chance on Friday.

This is odd, the original TFF Swamp Donkey passed away years ago... new Swamp Donkey?

Senko or t-rig during the spawn, I'm looking to fish a top water as much as possible during the post spawn.
