Had Bill Bush and his son in law and granddaughter for a trip today. Bill recently bought a house on Eagle Mountain so he wanted me to do some teaching to learn something about the lake. So I told him lets do some teaching because I have not been catching any fish till 10:30. So we did some running around showing him the hot spots on the lake for sandbass so he can go out and catch them on his own. We got to one of my spots about 10:20 and the fish were there . We fished for about 2 hrs caught 96. Real big sandbass. All fish caught on ole ugly slabs and flies. Sorry no pictures today somebody went off and left their phone at home. For you people who are waiting to book when it gets good well it is good. I have a few openings the next two weeks and then it gets busy. It got started earlier than I thought so people booked in mid April. Give me a call at 817-597-6598 and get in on this while it is hot. All fish caught on a 25ft. hump, water temp 62. Johnny

Curious, when you say hump do you mean on the actual hump or near the base when it starts to level out again, or do you mean around the hump?

All of the above . Find the humps and search all over with electronics. I find the humps and start circling around them working my way to the bottom. Saturday they were hanging on the slope 24 to 27 ft. Sunday they were up on top of hump. The key on Eagle Mountain is to know the humps slopes and drop offs and you will find them. Johnny

Probably looking on wrong humps. Not all humps hold fish. Sorry I read your post wrong. If you can't Find the humps that navtronics shows I don't know about that. That is what I use. Lake master is way off on Eagle Mountain. I have both but I use navtronics. Johnny

Had several people call and ask what do we do on a teach trip. Well my objective on a teach trip is to get you where you can catch sand bass on your own. I will show you the areas that sand bass frequent. We will do some training on the dept finderfinder and we will catch fish as we find them.

You don't need side scan to find humps. Remember Em is a old and a lot of the humps are only a couple of ft high. That is all it takes sometimes.

Agree. But I have the humps marked so I am not looking for the humps but I am looking for fish when I am on a hump. I have to admit it makes a big differance when you have been fishing a lake over 50 years. So I have some bad habits. Johnny

Johnny, let me add to Notaguide's point about sidescan. Like you, I got along just fine without it. Last year while fishing with etu and lenahorse in Larry's boat I saw how they used sidescan. Here's what I learned from them: while going over a structure looking for fish, you can see them, find them faster with sidescan. They had theirs set to look 75 ft to each side. That's a 150 ft wide pass over the structure as opposed to only having sonar directly beneath the boat. Not only do you find them faster, but you find some you would have missed because as you weave back and forth over a structure, the fish may have been in between the spots you went over with your sonar only to find them. For small structures sidescan is really not needed. But at EM, I think it would be very helpful covering the large structure out from the west end of the main dam and covering all the drop-offs along the south edge of the flats south of Pelican Island. I think it would also help you find fish faster on the hump south of the boat club marina.
After seeing this 1st hand, I worked with my sidescan, which I had not previously made use of, adjusting the settings until I could see fish like Larry's did. That was in July. I've use sidescan since then, and I wouldn't be without it now.

Dennis I agree a 100 percent but I was not even talking about finding fish I was trying to adress coop2564 problem of not being able to find the humps that showed on his navtronics card .He stated that he did not have side scan and I just said you did not have to have side scan to find the humps. But I agree it is a great and valuable tool. But the way I understood his post he could not find the humps that is navtronics card showed. Johnny
