I was thinking about joining the NAFC (North American Fishing Club.) would it be a waste of my money?

Probably. I had a buddy that joined the North American Hunting Club. He never got anything out of it.

I tend to think those types of organizations aren't very useful. You can get the same articles from a magazine at the grocery store and keep your name off the world's largest mailing lists. just my .02

If you are a bass fisherman specifically there are some great bass mags out there....Bassmasters, BassWest, Bassin. Another mag thats not bass or fishing specific but always has great articles on lakes in our state and thats Texas Fish & Game. If North American Fishing Club is anything like there hunting magazine it will have alot of useless stuff for us here in Texas like salmon, trout, and steelhead fishing.

I was a member for a while. I didn't really gain anything out of it. Their magazine is geared for all types of fishing and not on a specific type. They do alot on Bass fishing however, and the articles that they do write on are very good. I think that you can get better information, like Aggie_Fisher09 said, from the list he gave.

Now, the fishing forum that they have is pretty good though. I have been on that forum for about 2 years and like it alot. There are some very knowledgeable people on that forum too. For me, it was the best part of it. I don't think you have to be an actual member of NAFC to be part of the forum either. Just have to register with the site.

My biggest problem with NAFC is all the junk they try and sell you. They send you junk mail all the time. You can sign up to be a product tester and test their products, but in two years, I think I was able to test 2 items; Manns Hard Nose Baits, and some fishing line.

Then they have their series of fishing books they want you to buy. They send you a book to try and if you like it send them some money. If not, you have to hassle with it and send it back. That to me was a pain.

I don't see the benefit of the "club" at all. It isn't like they are taking a valid interest in your local community or state, and getting together to talk real issues related to fisherman. Not like a local Bass club or environmental club would do.

You could always try it for a year, if you don't like it, cancel it. My opinion is not to bother. I have learned more from the TFF than any other site, and that includes:

www.bassboatcentral.com
www.Iboats.com
http://forums.fishingclub.com/groupee

Good luck.
Eric

I am a member of NAFC and if you do the product testing program you can get some great stuff I have gotten Fillet knives, Lures, Fishing line, hooks, rods/reels, etc. and all you have to do is send back a little product review and you get to keep the product free. If you don't do the field test program you better just stick to BASS(i am also a member), OutdoorLife, or Field and Stream(i am a subscriber to all three). the program is great but the program is just not cut out for some people. Kingfisher82 is right there is alot of stuff in the magazenes that don't pertain to us here in Texas but what they do have for us is really good.

Tight lines and God bless!
