Good day. I am looking for some help. I have a friend coming in from Ga. and his boy is set for fishing for all the different bass. Well this year he is set on a Guadalupe bass. Where is the best option in the Austin to San Antonio area for him to check off another Bass off his list.. My home lake is Canyon and I have a boat. Also what would you use for bait?
Thanks in Advance

I have caught most of my Guadalupe Bass up river on the Guadalupe River! Kerville,Sisterdale area. I have also caught a few on the Comal River,Blanco River, and on Dunlap and Placid. I used live worms slowly retrieving them off of the bottom! Caught them year around.
IGFA World Record Rio Grande Cichlid. Lake Dunlap. John 3:16 Sinner's Prayer. God forgive me a sinner. I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior !

I have caught a few Guadalupe Bass at the Boerne Nature Center on the Cibolo Creek. This was a couple of years ago. I have also caught them below the Canyon Lake Trail Race.

Some were talking about using small swim jigs or shaky-heads. I like the worms idea but would you drop-shot or just split-shot it like normal bottom rig.

Friends of mine have caught them both with the drop shot method and the regular split shot method. I myself used White Rooster Tails, and small Tube Jigs,Chartreuse/Black.

Upper Guadalupe River seems to have the best population of Guadalupe Bass. Rebecca Creek area, and the Kerville area. Also as mentioned the Comal River has some. Good luck. Hope you catch some.

I almost always catch a few every trip to Dunlap. The Guadalupe bass like current, so your best chance on Dunlap is upper river between the launch area and the 1st bend to the right ...especially around rocks, docks & cypress tree roots. I use night crawlers fished off the bottom. They usually hit on the fall or right after it hits bottom. You saw pictures on my last two posts...the one from this week was full of eggs & ready to spawn. I don't usually catch Guadalupe bass this big...

Thanks. I am going to try crawlers and some Ned rigs. I love to pain fish, so this bass is a bit out of my normal bite. If going Plastics what colors are good. I have several pumpkin and watermelon range of plastics. As for small jigs like for Crappie and Gills I have a big range in them.
I have a Fish and Ski boat. I was wondering if it runs to deep to launch at 35 and fish Dunlap. I want to fish that chain of lakes but I know nothing about them and more so the hidden stuff in the water.

I see people launch big ski boats there all the time, so it shouldn't be a issue. As far as colors go, not sure it matters that much...but others may have a different opinion,...
