I see a lot of talk about not using ethanol gas. What is it that makes it bad to use on out board engines? What does it affect that makes it so bad to use? I would think that as long as it has been around that motor manufactures would address it with their design or engineering by now. Thanks

Modern outboards are designed to accept up to 10% ethanol. Nothing wrong with it as long as you do't let it sit for months at a time without stabilizer. I'm sure it won't take long for the keyboard commandos to come along and tell you how you're motor will self destruct at the first turn of the key if you put some in the tank.

My mechanic says most of the problems occur when switching to ethanol from pure gas. The ethanol acts as a solvent, and loosens deposits which get in your fuel system. Ethanol also allows water to be absorbed and burned off instead of separating. He said for optimum results, keep all filters in good shape, top off after using the boat to minimize any place for water to accumulate, and use a good additive. We all know how hard and expensive it is to find non ethanol fuel. Also, you should buy your gas from a station that sells a lot, so it is fresher.

Can easily go bad after 30 days if not treated with stabilizer.

X2 Ethanol and Zebra mussels. All made 1000x worse by bureaucrats and politicians.

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Both my lawnmowers run perfectly fine on it. Fuel mixed with 2 stroke oil has a stabilizer in it and will go much longer. To me the biggest threat to any boat always has been and still is... storing it outside!
