I know it out of control. Someone needs to teach manors on the water with ethics .

I personally think they are at a point in the Southeast Texas division that they have gotten so big that they are needing to split that group up. They had almost 600 teams Saturday and its great that the kids are really getting into it but it is putting a stress I'm sure on the people running it and I am sure it is putting a stress on the lake. Maybe break them up in district kinda like UIL does in other sports and let them qualify to fish against the winners of each district in a finals at the end of the season. Just my 2 pennies but still very glad to see that many kids getting into fishing....great job by all!

I wonder how many of the teams it's more about the captains or parents wanting their kids to fish instead of the kids actually wanting to be there? Ive had a couple captains tell me their kids lost interest pretty quick and played on their phones all day.

Thats been my thoughts as well..... some kind of inter team qualifier to go to the big events instead of come one come all. I will say that each year the courtesy on the water has improved from my experiences of fishing the same day as the youngsters.

Ive had a couple captains tell me their kids lost interest pretty quick and played on their phones all day. I've heard that a lot. This is why they need a try out system. Let each school have a couple of qualifier events and take 2 teams each to regional events. We don't need more parents dumping kids off for someone else to watch for a day. Especially if it's a jack wagon showing them how it's done

I'm sure nobody got cut off at the Mega Bass on Fork this weekend....Or at the last Bass Champs event on Rayburn...or on any of the last 16 weekends that there were 20+ tournaments on Rayburn. Point is, this happens pretty much any time there is a huge event on any lake. I'm not saying it's right, but it is certainly not exclusive to the High School tournaments. The High School fishing program is growing extremely fast. Personally I think it's a great thing for the sport of Bass Fishing. I know its a great thing for the entire industry of fishing. There's always bumps in the road when any organization experiences rapid growth, but I think overall it is a great program. Most all of the teams are looking for volunteers to work with their students on becoming better anglers. Instead of complaining constantly on a forum, like some on here do, go down to your local high school and see if there is a group of kids you might be able to help become better anglers.

Get the boat registration numbers if possible or at least a good description of the boat. Their jerseys will have a team name, usually personal name and this will help if reported to the tournament director.

I always find these posts interesting. I have never had an issue with the High Schoolers, but rest assure during any local Bass Champs, or weekend tournament, I have had several issues with the so called LAKE PROS.... That trail is the largest trail in the country. And your local city, Jasper, makes sure it stays on Rayburn. That is for economic purposes. I have talked to almost every BASS pro from K.V.D. down the line, and they have no complaints or gripes about it. So my question is should Bass Champs have a tryout system? Oh wait, those guys are making money to hold those events. S.E.T.X. will not break up into divisions simply because they do not have enough volunteers, since its non profit with 100% payback. Once again, Ford, Skeeter, Lews, Humminbird, Tackle Addict, etc, along with the Jasper E.D.C. keep those events on that lake. So in the nutshell, the most arrogant, classless, tournament fisherman I have encountered on the lake are you LOCAL PROS.....

Also, different people have different interpretations on what is considered getting "cuttoff." I've seen/heard people claiming to be cuttoff from a boat driving up and stopping 50 feet from them in the direction they are fishing (warranted), to calling a boat pulling on the opposite side of a cove "cutting" them off because they planned to fish ALL the way around to it. (Even in events like Megabass with 1000 boats.) And everything in between those circumstances.
No matter what some people just aren't going to be courteous and some people are going to be whiners. Deal with it. And don't come being a sarcastic whiner on the internet.

So in the nutshell, the most arrogant, classless, tournament fisherman I have encountered on the lake are you LOCAL PROS..... Yes, Jasper does support SETX but the organization has no other choice of lakes. What other lake in SE Texas has a facility that will accommodate 500-600 boats plus another 1200-1500 spectators. Umphreys and Cypress Bend barely has enough room for it. There are inconsiderate boaters in every tournament on the water nowadays. The bad thing is several of these guys that are acting like a jackwagon in the open tournaments are also volunteering to captain high school teams. This means their lack of manners is being taught to 2 young, impressionable kids. I'm all for the HS organizations. It has certainly done great things for kids that might otherwise find not-so-positive things to do. As a result, it has certainly improved the industry as a whole for retailers. I hope SETX can figure out a system to keep their teams at a manageable number.

I think this need to be done. Then can fish smaller lakes around their “district”. Then qualify and move up to area, region and then state.

I would confront them on the lake instead of here. I am a captain this year and I will have to say I have not seen one instance this year in the Central Division. It is alot better this year than in the past. I say if it happens while you are on the water go have a talk with them and I am sure it won't happen again. Keep in mind alot of the Captains are not tournament fisherman and really just don't know.

High School fishing is a great way to get the kids interested in the sport, just still in need of a little "tweaking".
