Dear fellow anglers. It is very important that you understand the differences of the sonar frequencies. I met a couple on the water today that has been fishing for days without success. Frustrated, mad, angry, they spent hours on the water finding little fish.

He told me his buddy who is a tournament fisherman adjusted his unit "perfectly". He read me his settings. Um, them were not perfect!

The HB Helix CHIRP unit was set to HIGH frequency. The HIGH frequency appears when CHIRP is turned on. When off, it is 200 kHz. This frequency is a 20 degree cone which in 20 FOW only produces a 6 foot wide sonar cone at teh lake bottom. Tough to find fish when set wrong and the beam is constricted. Once I got it correct to MEDIUM/HIGH - BOOM!! Arches were visible on the sonar!! Makes all the difference in the world.

If you aren't sure about what each setting does and how it affects the screen, you might benefit from a sonar class. If your sonar doesn't resemble my sonar, Contact me and let's see if you would benefit from an electronics class. 2-hours for $100. Don't waste time running the lake with the wrong settings.

Hey Leebayou. I wrote a manual that helps people learn to set and interpret their Humminbird sonar units.

There are DI and SI images included. DI and SI in general don't always photograph well if trying to illustrate fish.
