Headed to Fredericksburg in a couple of weeks for spring break. Going with friends and wives. Looking for any suggestions of where to go. Anything within an hour would be great.

Castell is a good place to start. Llano runs right through town. You can start at the low water crossing and fish down river. Cold beer and 2 inch ribeyes in the general store on Saturdays I believe. Castell is a really neat place to spend an evening. They have karaoke on Friday or Saturday nights and sometimes live music. Randy Leifeste owns most of Castell. Youll likely run into Randy, hes a very pleasant character. Pm me if you have any questions. Im sure some other members can elaborate on this place. I havent been to Castell in a couple years.

Kingsland is downstream from Castell and there is a spot there locals call "the slab" (large granite formation) where you might run into a school of whites about that time of year. Crystal clear water.

fredericksburg has it all there. you can contact martin Pursch at the country fly fisher to learn the spots https://www.yelp.com/biz/country-flyfisher-shop-fredericksburgI have fished almost all of the crossing on the Perd. Boos Ln has easy access.Look for runs and riffles for Guadalupe bass. slower water for LMB and redbreasts. In truth the creek feeding into lady Bird Lake fishes well too. or you can drive to Llano or Guadalupe to fish as well.

You can fish the Guadalupe from Hunt, where the North and South arms converge, in New Lake Ingram, Old Lake Ingram, Kerrville Ponding Lake(once named Chester Nimitz Lake, but I defy you to find a sign saying so), Elizabeth(?) Hayes Park Lake in the center of Kerrville, FlatRock Lake, and down to Center Point lake. All those are just wide, dammed places in the Guadalupe. Lots of bass, and beautiful scenic spots. The South Guadalupe Arm, west of Hunt is spectacular, and should be great for fly fishing, but virtually the whole waterfront on each side is(very) privately owned and posted with zillions of warning signs. Enjoy the real Hill Country. Frederiksburg is a wide spot in a dusty road. No charm, but a plethora of boutiques, shoppes, wineries, bars and restaurants. My nephew calls it a Tourist Trap for Austinites! They have some nice museums, too. IslandJim
