Ray Roberts doesnt have hybrids? Lake record hybrid at RR is 7.45. Definitely full of hybrids. neber heard of a hybrid caught in Rr. I would swear I caught a 4.4 pound hybrid on a white buzzbait. Was in about 2 water in the very back of that first big cove south Isle of Dubois launch. It was in August of 2014 and the water temp had to be in the 90s. Thats back when the lake was real low, we were just bank fishing. Only thing that made me second guess it is Jim Walling (guide) told me there were no hybrids in RR.

Idiots probably put a few in here. When I said there weren't any I was meaning none in measurable levels. There is probably a few of every species of fish in the state of Texas. I think the lake record was the only one Lindy or his customers ever caught. There is a striper record but I've never heard of another. There is a grass carp record although TPWD never put them in the lake. I do know of 2 private lakes in the watershed that have permits for them. Clearly smallmouth were stocked by somebody, I caught a very nice one that was definitely a pure blooded smallmouth a couple weeks ago. The fish that guy is talking about are white bass aka sandbass, not a palmetto or sunshine hybrid. Hybrids don't spawn and there are a bajillion little sandbass every year. And to address his concerns about them eating bass fry, I'm sure they do. But so do bass. I think they do more harm eating the amounts of shad as they do. Every now and then you will catch a big bass that has a sandbass in there gullet so the bass are utilizing them for food as well. Then he is wondering why fork has more fish than RR. Look a the stocking reports. Fork gets 500,000 fingerlings every year from TPWD.

One of my happiest days with RHBC was when we voted NOT to go to RR. I really don't like that place. It's kicked me in the tail more times than I can count. Not sure why TPWD doesn't dump a few million fry in there just to get the population up. Someday our guys will forget and vote it back on the schedule...

My club hated me last year as tourney director for putting it on our list for June, so I know the feeling. If your going to fish it in a club, fish it in May and June.

Headed to LRR for the first time Saturday for a week. Camping at Johnson Branch. Maps make it look awesome, but notes above have me questioning my sanity. Any suggestions for an old fart tryin to catch and release a few?

Johnson branch is a nice park! The fishing has been good for me lately, fish shallow where the water is warmer. I had a great trip yesterday, put 2 hogs in the boat (9lber and a 6lber).

Went to the lake yesterday. I went with way low expectations to just get a bite (not catch a fish just get a bite) and we caught 4 keepers. #blessed

Thanks for the encouragement!!! I really needed it. Seems like the older I get the easier it is to sit back and have another cup of coffee. Mental attitude is always a huge difference maker on the water. If I catch a good one (or two). I'll share.

That is a beautiful park, you will not be disappointed with the camping. There is good fishing right there close by, just North of the swim beach there is a good area and we have caught many good fish in the pocket that the boat ramp is in. Go North in that pocket and as it starts to narrow watch your electronics maybe 30yds off the East bank by the walk in campsites there is a pretty well defined channel with some standing timber under the water. I have caught them stacked in there pre spawn before. Anyways hope you have a great stay and catch a few fish while you are here!
See you on the lake and have a great day!

Are you talking about the actual pocket that is directly north of the boat ramp or are you talking about the entire creek arm that the boat ramp is in?
If you can't find em wind em.

The North end of the pocket before it narrows down into just the creek, very close to the walk in sites on the East side of the arm. The whole arm from the main lake well back into the creek has several great spots that hold fish.
On a side note, I used to fish that area and several others pretty hard years ago when I fished from a pond hopper. You learn all of the little ins and outs of an area when you can't fire up the big motor and go somewhere else because you don't have a big motor. I have a bass boat now and I am not sure I catch any more fish than I did from a little boat. It sure is a lot more fun to get to a spot now though!
See you on the lake and have a great day!
