Rode over the dam today. Behind the dam is really flooded. Going over the spillway. They can't open any gates because of flooding down stream. Picture is the parking lot behind the dam. All boat ramps and state parks are closed.

Is THIS THE TAIL RACE AREA??

This is where the water comes out of the gates. The spillway is about 100 yds. south of here. The concrete walkway in the middle of the picture is usually about 10 feet above the water.

OMG!!

Talked to a COE guy out there and he said it has never been this high. My rain gauge showed 13 in. the last 2 weeks. Picture is the road behind the dam.

Coop is 8.3 feet into flood pool this morning.
Pool is 440
Emergency spillway crest elevation is 446.2 ft above NGVD29.
2 feet plus flowing over emergency spillway....

This is from the Cooper newspaper. It was written by the COE.
Cooper Lake Update: 9:00am, Sunday, March 4th.

Lake level is at 447.87. Water will stop going over the uncontrolled spillway at elevation 446.20 which is predicted for March 11th given we get no substantial rain fall in the next couple of days. We have no gates open at this time.

The lower road to the spillway/fishing area IS NOW OPEN.

IF YOU CHOOSE TO FISH AT THE COOPER SPILLWAY IN THE COMING DAYS, PLEASE BE COURTEOUS AND PACK OUT ANY LITTER AND THROW ALL FISH THAT YOU DONT KEEP BACK INTO THE WATER. WE WORK VERY HARD TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A NICE, CLEAN FACILITY TO ENJOY AND WE SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE THE MAN POWER TO PICK UP AFTER HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE PER DAY. IF IT DOES GET OUT OF HAND THIS YEAR WE WILL CLOSE THE AREA DOWN UNTIL IT CAN BE CLEANED UP.


This is a report on the state parks as of March 1
Both units of Cooper Lake State Park are officially closed due to flooding, this includes fishing piers and boat ramps. The lake level is at a record high at 448.01' and is projected to rise to 449.12' by tomorrow at noon. As of now the South Sulphur unit is to be closed through March 22nd and Doctors Creek through April 2nd. We will continue to post updates.

I know they are all closed now, but for future reference is there a website I can go to to check which ramps are open and which are closed on cooper?

Feast or famine on that lake for sure. Maybe they can keep it full long enough for the lake to make a little comeback.
