Only ramp worth using is at the Lake Hawkins RV Park and it's a one lane ramp. Watch out for the rebar. Somebody drove rebar in a lot of the stumps and depending on the water level might be hard to see. ( see pictures )

I was there last fall and they were drawing the lake down so home owners could work on their docks. Have no idea what the lake level is now, might call the RV Park and they would know.

Is something wrong with the county ramp next to Taste of Italy?

Didn't look good to me and no place to park.

The ramp at the restaurant in my opinion is better. It is wider and not as steep as the rv park ramp. You can park in the grass west of the ramp. Have always used that ramp and have never had any problems.

That pictured area and some more stumps a little north of there cost me close to $2K in glass work... some of the old rebar is just inches above the top of a stump and if below the surface, you don't have the ability to avoid until it's too late....

Silly question but why would somebody put rebar in the top of those stumps?

I spent some time this winter pulling a lot of rebar out of the stumps on Hawkins. Dis what I could in the areas I fish.

It would be nice if TPWD could catch the folks who put in rebar and fine them for creating a hazard to navigation.

Because it will last a long time. There is supposed to be PVC slid over the rebar to mark the stump. As times passes by, the PVC disappears in one way or another.

The stumps are easy to see without the rebar or PVC but I promise you that guy is not gonna spend the time or money for PVC for other peoples sake. thumb
