I have a mobile detailer douching the interior of my truck today and had to pay $179.00 yesterday over the phone. Normally would be $138.00 but when the lady asked if there was any dog hair involved, I said yes but not too bad. Well it's an extra 40 bucks.

So what do I tip the guy, if it's required?

Why would it be required to tip?

I just assumed. Kinda like tipping at a restaurant. Never used an auto detailer before and was wondering.

10.00 to 20.00 pending outcome and attitude of the service. Always pay it forward, not backward. If you do not like the service and or cost, make another choice next time and if you were me, you would be keeping it clean yourself 2cents thumb peep

Got ya. The way I look at it is the price of the service is set. I wouldnt think a tip is required.

This^^^ Plus I know dog hair is a pain but they should tell you that up front.

you bring up an interesting point JayC, if it was a mobile auto-glass guy replacing your windshield would a tip be expected in that situation? I have had a couple replaced, but never tipped.

when i take my truck to the car-wash / detailer by my casa and get a $40-ish clean, i usually throw a $5 in the tip box they have set up where you pick up and drive off. I guess because its there and all those guys sweating in the heat look like they need it. and they do an outstanding job. But at the tire shop next door, when i get a tire fixed or an inspection I don't tip there.

What is the differentiation?

I would be more concerned about paying before the work is done.

I am sick and tired of people not tipping their home builders. I expect no less than 10% but would prefer 20%.

It has become apparent that when it comes to any "service" industry job, tipping comes into play randomly.

Tipping is no longer just for restaurants.

Tipping a detailer, a window guy, your roofer, a kid handing you coffee at a BS foofoo coffee shop, haircuts, massages?

How about the guy who tightens up your gears at a bike shop?
What about the guys changing your oil, or the cats at a tire shop, used or new? Do they get tipped?

Do you guys tip your yards guys?
If you cut your own grass, do you tip the guys at the shops when a gasoline yard tool needs servicing?

It's time to stop. No more tipping except to restaurant wait staff, and this does not including tipping the kid giving me popcorn at the movies or at Star's hockey games at the AAC.

No more!

Addendum: Do you guys get tipped at your jobs? My students don't tip me, and nobody in the Fishing Forum has tipped me for advice from topics or private emails. What gives?

Car wash prices are set but I still tip the people who wipe it down, dont you?

Speaking of restaurants, how much do you tip when using the to-go service, same as if you were dining in?
