Bought a new to me boat and it needs a sonar/gps at the console was looking into Humminbird or Lowrance. The helix 9 mega Si/Di looks promising and maybe the 9 inch Lowrance thats similar. Not really wanting to spend a fortune. I do fish some tournaments and want to get into crappie for my dad. I know both a solid brands just looking for everyones input havent had to buy one last was Lowrance 480. Ford vs Chevy again lol

Humminbird 9 MEGA would be your better unit. I work with both units teaching use and interpretation and unfortunately, Lowrance is a little behind in quality and ease of use.

Actually, try to go up to the 10 if you can find a price close to the 9 because the 10 will have more pixels and give a better quality picture.

Good deal. you'll be happy with them. Read up on them. Link them together and then if I am not mistaken, you will be able to get DI and SI views on the sonar model, from the other transducer. I don't have the mega but have a 10 and a 12. The 10 is a really nice size.

I used to own humminbird side imaging, and now own Lorannce HDS. HB is so much easier to use and the transducer is much much much smaller.

I only upgraded to the HDS for the motorguide trolling motor controls. The totalscan transducer is 12" long, yep 12". But it does a lot of things in one. If I was looking for something simple that does a good job, HB is the way to go. For more sophisticated high tech stuff and probably doesn't help all that much, Lowrance HDS. Just my opinion that is specific to my use case.

One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too!

The Humminbird Helix MEGA SI units, ONIX SI units, and SOLIX SI units come with a transducer that does Side Imaging, Down Imaging, 2D sonar, and temp.
