Sow trout can produce eggs as long as the SaltH2O temps are in the proper temperature, no matter the season.
Back around 1997 or 1998 we experienced an abnormally warm winter and I was fishing Cedar Bayou in shorts and caught some nice trout.
One was ~24" or so and when I cleaned her, she was full of rowe and it was the middle of January.
Talked to the technician local TP&W marine lab here in Rockport and it was confirmed that is was high water temps causing.
All that was needed were male trout for her to produce a spawn.

Thanks for that info. If this is the case, we will be catching some big trout in the months to come. I am ready for that, March trough May is absolutely one of my favorite times to fish here out of Seadrift.

After I took the filets off, then I took the whole trout down to the Marine Lab here in Rockport and wanted them to see how large and thick that rowe was.
Good learning experience working with them that day.

What kind of bottom, structure and conditions should I be looking for in the poc area right now and the coming weeks? Been a struggle to produce just a few small reds and zero trout the last couple times I've been down that way. Finding plenty of bait, but not many fish!
