Was wondering if anyone has one of the new Minn-Kota remote control motor guides and if so....What do you think of it? I like the idea but wanted some opinions. - -AL

i recently spent a couple of days fishing with my grandpa and i can tell you first hand those things are awesome. you can move from anywhere in the boat by just pressing the footpad or hitting the remote control. if i wasnt a college student i would most definitely buy one.

I have a Terrova AutoPilot w/CoPilot. Just awesome. On recent windy and cold day, I stayed at the console behind the windshield. Stayed dry and warm. Now if they would make a auto deploy and recovery system I would never have to goto the bow again!

That looks like a great deal to me. I think that the Minn-Kota brand is more in the $1000 range. Motor Guide is a good brand we had good luck with the one we had on our old bass boat. We traded up to "Striper boat". LOL -- AL

Just for Gee-whiz, Cabela's has free shipping on all their Minnkota's and right now. It saved me $50.00 over what my local marina wanted.

FYI, My Father in Law and fishing partner, who has to have a remote control for everything.....toilet seat, wine bucket, and everything else, just had to have one for our boat so we upgraded. I was a tiller handle kind of guy, but I have to admit, that the remote control is really cool. I can run the boat from the helm and fish from under the shade. Don't be afraid of it if you are seriously looking for one. And the auto pilot is a really nice feature, just point the trolling motor in the direction that you want to go and press the button and it will keep you on track hands free, it really does work.

Just got one for my boat, but haven't had a chance to try it yet(stupid remodeling projects around the house). All the positive feedback really has me pumped to try it. I'm trying to get out in the morning for a few hours.

My wireless TM and the wrist watch remote control came with the boat. Love it. I'm free to roam anywhere on the boat and do on/off, left/right, +/- power conveniently on my wrist as I fish. Great toy :-P
No roaming charges and no deadspots hehe.

You will store the foot pedal, for the remote is so much fun to use. Just like your TV remote. Who gets up and turns the channel any more? Don't we spend an hour searching for the remote vs. giving in to turning the channels manually? This might not be a good thing on the water!

I have had one for two years. It is the most awesome tool I have ever had for fishing or a boat. I always use the autopilot. Like Sabot said in the wind I can sit in one spot with the autopilot on and stay in the back of the boat away from the spray. I have an 80# thrust with a 60 " shaft for those windy days.

I've been using the Minn Kota Powerdrive 74lb, Autopilot with copilot remote for over 2 years now. I would highly recommend it for open water fishing (it's not designed for banging around stump fields). It will hold a heading if you match the speed to the wind. I only used the foot control once when I left the remote in the truck (the foot control does allow you to fine tune the speed). When throwing a cast net you can control everything from the remote.
The autopilot allows you to spend more time fishing and less time adjusting the TM.
