Ok so here is the story. Yesterday was our 20th anniversary and we are in Vegas to celebrate. We also are here to close on some property to build our retirement home. So we get up and go to breakfast. My wife's phone rings and it's her boss which I don't know at the time who she is talking too. She starts crying and I immediately think it's one of our parents as they are elderly and have been sick recently. She is on the phone for which seems like forever and when she hangs up I ask what's wrong. She replies she just lost her job. I get a sinking feeling in my stomach. She is the bread winner by far making well into the six figures. Well she then says her department is being consolidated to Alpharetta Georgia and they have offered her a full move package and a 10,000 raise if she will relocate. Ok my heart has just started beating again and the purple color is leaving my face. I said why are you crying we will just move and have another adventure. She replies because she knows I love it here and was worried about me. We like most married couples have had our issues but we have always worked them out and have always come out stronger for it. I guess what I am trying to say is I have the best wife out there. Anyway once the dust settled we head to the casino for a couple stiff drinks. I put a twenty in a penny machine and hit max bet which is $3.00 and hit a $10,567.00 jackpot. We leave on Saturday for home and try to start cleaning out the house to get ready to sell. She needs to give them an answer by 4/2 and be in Georgia by 6/30. So anyone know anything positive about the Georgia area. We are looking north of Alpharetta to be farther from the downtown Atlanta area. While I was typing this her boss just told her they are paying for plane tickets and 1000.00 for us to go over there for a few days to look around. I officially retire at the end of this month at 59.5 thanks to my dad who had me start saving when I started working at 16 but I still think I will look for something I really like doing on a part time basis. Thanks for listening as it was quite a day!!

Thanks. This will be the third move for us but we have been in Texas for almost 20 years so this is going to be a little tough for us.

Went for training in Alpharetta for a week, years ago. Nice suburb, Pine trees everywhere, really, really, nice people and great food is what I took away from the place. A lot of serpentine tree lined roads, got turned around a few times in the wee hours.
I will be back. I'm never truly gone.....Last post by Brad RIP

I lived in Alpharetta before moving here. Nice area but quite conjested. Lake lanier is less then an hour away and is a great striper lake, its a huge body of water. High humidty, always above 90%, pine trees, ice storms, heavy thunderstorms, a lot of transplants, a lot of golf courses. Its ok
If you want to pm me any specific questions i would be happy to help

Getting away from the Vegas rat race for a while will do you good.

You were going to retire in Vegas? Wow....is that a retirement place?
Okay back to story now.....

Open your eyes & look within, are you satisfied with the life youre living.
No matter how good or bad you have it, wake up each day thankful for your life. Someone somewhere else is desperately fighting for theirs.

Does your wife work for State Farm? I know they are consolidating and cleaning house on upper management and longtime employees. My daughter works for them and is facing a move as well. they have 2 young boys and we see them often. its going to suck if they have to move, but you do what you have to for your family. Good luck to you!

I loved the Savannah area. Close to I-95. Could pop down to Florida for the day or up North for some golf.
