The wife and daughter were busy tonight so I took the opportunity to make a run out to Irwin bridge. I worked my way down from the bridge for about 45 minutes but as I expected the banks are already extremely slick. I was able to get down the bank (barely) in a couple spots but there was no chance in most. Unless I wanted to slide into the creek or crawl on my belly to get back up. I only caught 4 big male white bass and a keeper crappie. I saw no signs of spawning in the area either. I went back to the bridge and caught crappie on just about every other cast but only 2 more keeper size. More crappie are definitely showing up though.

I am hoping to run up the Yegua in the Zodiac from Nails ramp tomorrow morning during the storm. I wanted to hit the white bass spawn before a major creek rise. If the upper Yegua water shed gets 3 or 4 inches tomorrow (Wednesday) then being able to access the creek, on top of water clarity, could shut catching down for a few days...Lawton

The wind looks decent for a run, 5-10mph coming in from the SSE with a good chance of rain. Are you looking for white bass and crappie? I am really wondering how wolf pond is for crappie, been getting a big itch to do a fish fry with them.

Wow, that's incredible. Now it's been broken 5 times in the last 2 years. Do you know where it was caught?

I wonder if this is being driven by the lack of pressure due to the floods, the boat ramps being closed and the loss of common places they were caught such as Big Creek Marina. Or if these big fish were always there, maybe even caught and just not officially weighed. Maybe it's just the explosion of bait fish helped by the flooding and the protection the additional flooded areas provided. Or a combination of all the above. Very intriguing.

How much rain has the Yeagua watershed gotten so far.

We received about 1.5 inches around Brenham yesterday but the actual Yegua watershed only about a 1/2 inch from what I saw yesterday. I checked Rockdale, Milano, etc. multiple times on Underground weather yesterday and in all cases it only showed about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I'm not sure how accurate that was. Burton showed about 3/4 inch. So not near as much as expected, either way. The lake level hasn't really started to rise as of yet. But that normally takes about 36 hours.

I think the previous yeara flooding and abundance of bait has rocketed the size of all fish.

Looks like East Yegua is up about 1.5' still rising. West Yegua up about .5' and steady, according to NOAA.

Hopefully it's just enough to keep them coming

This explains why all the white bass I caught on Monday were pushing 2 lbs

I went to Irwin Bridge yesterday and that's exactly what I saw. It was up about 1.5 ft. It was a little murky with streaks of muddy water but still in good condition. Nails creek was also up about a foot or so. There were a couple guys catching white bass near 125 bridge. Nails might be good this weekend. They will usually make a run up Nails after a good rain and fishing is usually really good for about 3 days before they start retreating again.
