I had local celebrity guide Thomas Powell of Loco Pescado guide service on board last night for some fun dock light fishing. We started fishing lighted docks around 8:00 pm but didnt get a fish hooked till after 10:00. Wind wasnt too bad for a while but it definitely affected the fishing and the boat positioning. The wind picked up about midnight and really worked me hard the remainder of the trip. We had to travel several miles overall to catch our 35 or so fish. Thomas had the most fish (remember I was fighting the trolling motor and boat. Thats what us guides do so our clients can have fun). He also had the big fish at 10.5 lbs. My big one got away by wrapping my line around something under the dock. The fish seem to be moving a lot the last few weeks. Water temps were 46 to 48. Visibility was about 3 ft mostly. Most fish caught in 10 to 26 ft of water. Will load pics later.

I know he caught them because he sent me pictures. Nice looking fish. Maybe not as nice as mine but still pretty good.

You have been posting some great pics of the stripers you are catching at night. Good for you and thanks for sharing the pics and info on this forum. But what about day fishing for stripers. The past few months I have been out with guides and on my own. Fished all over the upper end of the lake from Cedar Creek and north. Just haven't had a lot of success. Dead sticking, jigs, slabs you name it I've tried it. Went out a few days ago and marked very few fish. Maybe it's just my bad charma. What's the secret to catching stripers on PK if you don't want to fish at night? I haven't found it. Just waiting For warmer weather and the sand bass to get active. That's fun!!

In the past I have found if you get out before daylight and catch some shad on dock lights or your favorite place you should have some luck on the edge of the channels for a while at day break. This time of year I seldom use shad because I wind up getting wet and the cold wind and wet clothes dont mix well. I usually deadstick jigheads with a fluke or swimbaits over trees in deep water while thumping until spring when the fish are shallow and active. You may not get many bites on some days deadsticking but should at least get a few anyway. Watch the moon and wind speeds and schedule your fishing time accordingly. If on a full moon fish in the wee hours of morning or wait till around noon when they get hungry again. The day time bites can be slower around the full moon at times because the fish feed when thay can see the bait shadows from the moonlight. If you want to schedule a trip give me a shout. I try to educate clients while we are fishing so they can enjoy catching fish on their own. A lot of times striper fishing is tough because they do things different than many other species that we (fishermen not necessarily guides) all target most of the year. Thanks for the praise and questions.

They gonna be sideways. More than likely. You called it. Uploaded those pics 4 times while rotating them each time. Frustrating!

Loco at PK.. I fished the north end lights Thursday night for about an hour. Very slow. Picked up Brady from school and went back with intentions of hitting hit hard all weekend. Brady came down sick and really didnt feel like fishing all weekend. We tried the North end lights again Sat night and they were slow again. Didnt fish long as Brady was still under the weather. Fished Sunday morning briefly catching enough fish in Cedar creek for a fish fry. All fish caught deadsticking at 20 in 47 of water. Had to knock them up. I have been poking the fire a lot this winter but I have had enough of that for now. Look out PK stripers. Give me a call next time you guys head out on a night run Ill go with you.

The fish have moved. Cedar creek and south have been the go to areas. I have not had a call this week. If I don't go to Fork this weekend then I will be going. Me and Jeff will more than likely go if we do not have any client's. I can show you some great areas. This will slow down once the water gets back into the 60's. Get it now!!

i Have dock light fished at PK for years...mostly on the North end because my place is in Willow Beach.
I did notice some bait swimming on its side in some of the Willow Beach dock lights. I think this is because of cold water and not golden alga. The birds are working like crazy from the public ramp to Willow beach. I think we are having a small shad kill. The Simrads just didnt show many larger fish around that area. South end of Peanut patch and Cedar creek had lots of fish Sunday. I have a trip on Thursday but can go dock light fishing Friday thru Sunday night. We can even take my boat!

Thanks guys. Its a blast but a killer if you cant sleep in the next morning. Not like I remember it 25 yrs ago when I pulled all nighters after working 16 hrs or so. Randy, Those birds have been working scattered out from north d&d up past the airport flying high and occasionally one will drop to snatch up a shad on the surface. No groups of them more than 3 or 4 so I figured the bait and fish are scattered throughout the whole area. It surprised me we caught most of our fish in broadway south almost to South D&D at night.
