Going to be down there mid March staying in a condo near the Island Moorings, I know there is a paid boat ramp there and it looks like there is a channel that runs to the ship channel..

I grew up in Portland and went offshore a lot and lived in City by the Sea in highschool, so, familiar with the area from Rockport, Estes Flats and the causeway going to Port A
We never really ventured down the ship channel and to the backside of of Port A that I recall.

I am interested in the East Flats, Fish banks, etc..it looks like there might be a channel that will take you from the Island moorings into that area taking a hard left/south right after the houses end.

I have 16" jon boat that will run in 2ft of water, just curious how deep that channel is or any navigation advise for getting through there..

Usually like to do a combo of drift and wade fishing.

There are two natural channels you could take into East Flats/Pelone Island area from Mustang Bach Channel (or the Island Moorings Channel). The channel you are describing where you hang a left past the last house then a right you'll be able to motor in there about 300 yards, but the flat would be too shallow except on the highest of tides for you to motor. It's a great flat to drift, but the other entrance points have too much oyster to get through.

Right at the turn north to the ship channel there's another access point you could motor in about 350 yards. Its the most direct route to East flats, but you'll have to drift to it.

Either way, you can get in to the flats and hop out and wade from both entrances.

The last time we paid to use the ramp at Island Moorings it didn't open until 8 A.M, and you will have to go to the marina to get them to unlock the cable on the ramp. And I think they lock it again at 5 P.M.

The limited hours and the $25 fee make one think they don't really want to be a big launch ramp operation. I can't blame them. But, the other choices are Port A Harbor or Wilson's Cut, neither of which is wonderful. Last Neunie told us, Island Moorings would let you put your kayak in for free.

thanks... but the prevailing winds would be working against you to drift into it right?

have to do some more research
they do offer a "transient" slip option, I could get the boat in in the afternoon and keep it there for a few days to avoid dealing with the ramp. it's 25 a day
