LOL, only 2 years later.. Garmin Striker plus 5cv. decided to do a rail mount. I like to fool around with FF'rs did not want to be reacing over, as would happen with a center between feet mount.

so far, 3 trips and no hassles with the location, fishing wise. The 1" ball mount is just barely enough to hold it though. OTOH, it is easy to fold out of the way, lol.
I feel , that had i put it in the center of the boat, I know it would be covered in fish slime from the fish hitting as I land them and also tangle line on it as I laid the rod down in the boat.
