After the crappie go shallow to spawn water temps 55 to 65 degrees they seem to start coming in shallow, maybe it's to feed on eggs and fry, baby crappie. The spawn isn't for a few days until the temps go up around 70 + degrees. But I seem to do just as good if not better on the prespawn.

They'll generally show up on the rip rap pretty early too. They are gorging themselves on the threadfin shad during their spawn according to my stomach content analysis.

Ive caught limits of them chasing shad on the rocks as early as April 1st, but they generally dont really get to spawning until May, about 70 degrees the trickle in, 72-78 it gets good.
