Is the new "formula" reel from Bass Pro the old Pro Qualifier?
Is the PQ2 a solid reel? I haven't used one.

I have 2 of the PQ2s and they're not my favorite but for the money they're not bad. The reel itself is built solid but they don't seem to cast real well for me. Brake system is a bit screwy. My original PQ is one of my favorite reels though.

The differences I see offhand
PQ: Aluminum frame, 7 bearings Formula: Graphite frame, 10 bearings
Formula doesn't have the spring pin to open the side plate to get to the clutch.

I have the previous PQ model that came out, got them while they were on clearance. $50 was a good deal for what they are, I personally wouldn't pay full price for them though. Unfortunately I can't answer your question.
