My take as well as far as Collin county needing more water capacity that was obvious in recent droughts. To me this is all good news especially for anyone living in Collin county.

This lake is supposed to supply water to Fanin County. Its been in talks for at least 4-5 years now that ive been hearing, seems they will build it into lake bonham as well... Kinda like lake Lewisville was built on Lake dallas, etc. Oh, and dont get called out for pot licking the day the lake opens as you know all those guys own the lake already

Not exactly. The lake is owned by NTMWD. Although they sold it as a new source of water for Fannin County, it will be used for the entire NTMWD district. The lake will back up to Lake Bohnam dam but they are not taking the lake in. When I first heard about the lake in 2003 it was scheduled to open in 2018.

My guess is people will just call it the LBC

Technically, Wheeler Branch was constructed as a reservoir recently, but it's a very small one.

From the NTMWD Website....

Lower Bois d’Arc Creek Reservoir
Project Overview

The proposed Lower Bois d’Arc Creek Reservoir or LBCR project in Fannin County will be a critical new source of water for residents and businesses in all the north Texas communities served by the District.

The project is needed to meet the growing water demands of the region including Fannin County. The new source of water is part of a comprehensive long-range strategy NTMWD has developed to meet the region’s needs for several decades. The approach includes a continued commitment to water conservation and reuse, using and leveraging existing water supplies and sources, and building new sources of supplies.

Upon approval, this will be the first new reservoir constructed in Texas in nearly three decades. NTMWD began permitting required for the project in 2003. Final permitting and construction is scheduled for early 2018 with completion by 2022.

The project will pipe water from the new lake 35 miles to a new water treatment plant to be constructed in Leonard.

Five major components:
1.Reservoir dam and intake
2.Raw water pipeline
3.Water treatment plant (initial capacity of 70 MGD – million gallons per day)
4.Roadway improvements and bridge
5.Environmental mitigation area

Project is essential to:
•Meet water needs of about 80 communities in North Texas, including Fannin County residents;
•Enable use of additional water supplies from Lake Texoma;
•Support economic growth in the region; and
•Provide recreational opportunities, such as fishing and boating.

Quick facts:
•Lake surface area: 16,641 acres (slightly smaller than Cooper Lake/Jim Chapman)
•Storage capacity: 367,609 acre-feet
•Yield: Up to 108 million gallons per day
•Environmental mitigation: Improvements on nearly 17,000 acres
•Estimated cost: $1.2 billion (2016 dollars)

Status (as of March 2017):
•State Water Rights Permit Received, June 2015
•Final Environmental Impact Statement developed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
•404 Clean Water Act Permit (under review)
•NTMWD has invested more than $135 million toward planning, permitting, engineering and land acquisition for LBCR – 85 percent of land acquired.
•Fannin County is studying development plans around new reservoir area.

Economic benefits:

The reservoir will also benefit the Fannin County and the NTMWD service areas by providing stable water supplies that will enable communities to attract and support new businesses and jobs. Economic growth will accompany the development and construction of the reservoir with Fannin County projected to see a boost in taxable real estate values by an estimated $316 million. Additionally, recreational amenities provided by the reservoir could generate $166 million of annual economic activity per year in Fannin County through activities such as fishing and boating, as well as new industrial and commercial opportunities.*

Not to worry my friend. The locals will take care of that in due time. Think Zelda Boy park on RayBob.

How about Lake Fort Warren?

or Lake Bloomington since that was a name popular with early residents of the area?

Lake Fort Warren

Why is it so hard for folks to understand the difference between a lake and a reservoir?
